This past Saturday Kenny and I took the kids to Petco to see the Humane Society dogs. I've been dog hungry... its like baby hunger only for a dog. Its been over a year since Gabby died so I've been feeling its time to have a pup around.
I'm completely convinced that kids should grow up around a dog. I was. Kenny was. There is just something about that type of companionship thats too valuable.
Kenny wasn't necessarily ready to jump on the "getting a dog" bandwagon. He gets way too attached, and then when they die he has a very hard time with it. His tender heart is one of the many reasons I fell in love with him. But, I still wanted a dog.
There were several good looking dogs there last saturday. I wanted a housebroken dog, one that wasn't a puppy, one that was good with cats (we have 3), and most importantly- one that is swell with kids. I'm not too picky am I? I also love LOVE big dogs, but they are super expensive to feed and I already have 4 kids under foot, so a big dog was out of the question- at least for now.
Enter Harley...
There were two tiny dogs being displayed on Saturday and I fell in love this this little pooch. She's a Chihuahua mix (I'm thinking Dachshund is in the mix somewhere), 10 months old, fixed, good with cats AND kids, potty trained, no shedding, small eater.... My wish list was met!
Isn't she cute?
So our family is head over heals for this little warm bundle. She's adopted Emme as her mom and Emme just loves it. She's been such a fun little joy this past week.
We've had a few accidents in the house, but all in all she's adjusting rather well. I am also a firm believer in adopting pets. There are sooooooo many homeless shelter pets right now.
Happy Thursday!
